Sports and Recreation

NPARC aims to provide a range of Local Recreational Services and facilities for both Local residents and visitors. Facilities are spread between the communities, and are open to each community.

The communities members are actively involved with sports such as Football, AFL, Basketball, Touch Football, Fishing, Swimming, Volleyball and Softball.

Each Community has use of and access to a Community Hall and Ovals, maintained by NPARC. There are also basketball courts located in New Mapoon, Bamaga and Injinoo, and a public pool in Bamaga.

NPARC community facilities such as the Bamaga Pool, Community Halls and Ovals, as well as sound equipment, chairs and tables can be hired out for functions, meetings, events, and other activities. Please contact New Mapoon Events team on 0740486600.

Sport & Recreation Plan Facilities Summary and Sport & Recreation Facilities Plan give information about the future plans for the community and can be found here on the corporate documents page.

Seisia Wharf

The Seisia Wharf is a popular spot to go fishing. The Wharf offers beautiful sunsets and views of small islands across the water. It's strongly advised you do not swim here, as there are many crocodiles, sharks and stingrays in the water. Seaswift uses the Wharf to deliver NPA’s businesses and residents mail, ordered items, groceries etc. Peddells Ferry Services also uses the Wharf as a Departure and Arrival base for the Ferry to and from Thursday Island. For Ferry prices and/or the Ferry Timetable. Search http://peddellsferry.com.au or call (07) 4069 1551

New Mapoon All Abilities Playground

The Community Development Employment program constructed an All Abilities Playground in the heart of New Mapoon. The playground officially opened in 2011. Artworks, mosaics and gardens have been installed in the playground area. The artwork tell the tales of Local dreaming stories, family totems and unity.

Community Halls
